SPRING Partners with Peace Corps to Provide Nutrition Training in West Africa

SPRING is collaborating with the United States Peace Corps’ Office of Program and Training Support, the West Africa Food Security Partnership (WAFSP), and selected Peace Corps countries to implement nutrition interventions in the West Africa sub-region.

In March 2013, SPRING Senior Advisor, Agnes Guyon, facilitated the project’s first training of Peace Corps Training Coordinators in West Africa on essential nutrition and hygiene actions in Cotonou, Benin. Representatives from Peace Corps headquarters and five Peace Corps countries (Benin, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Gambia) attended the 4-day training-of-trainers. Existing training materials were adapted to the Peace Corps context and are now available to volunteers in English and French. Each country developed an action plan to extend training to staff, volunteers, and their counterparts. SPRING will continue to provide technical assistance to ensure the quality of the Peace Corps and WAFSP-funded nutrition and hygiene training over the next two years.
